Accidents at Work video transcript

When you go to work you expect to be safe, you don't expect to end up in hospital with an injury which might mean time off work and other losses for you and your family.

Your employer has a duty to take care of your health and safety at work. That includes providing you with a safe workplace, the right equipment to do the job and the right training amongst other things.

If you are injured at work then you may have a claim for compensation. If you are injured at work make sure you get medical attention as soon as possible it's also important that you report the accident and the circumstances surrounding it to your employer and an entry made in the accident book.

Often your main concern is financial. If you're likely to be off work for any length of time or indeed may not be able to return to the same job because of your injuries you're likely to be concerned about whether or not you'll be paid for any time off work or if your wages will go down if you have to change jobs. Your employer will have obligations to do with paying you whilst you're off work. If you do lose wages as a result of an accident at work then we can look to recover that loss as part of your claim, including any lost bonuses and reduction in wages as a result of a change in job.

An accident also impacts on family. Family members may require to take time off work to provide you with help with daily tasks and personal care. Whilst that help is often provided without any expectation of being paid for we can recover compensation for the help they provide.

At Thorntons we aim to recover the maximum amount for you to properly compensate you for the injuries and losses you suffer. If you'd like to have a no-obligation chat to discuss your situation and the options available to you, you can get in touch using the telephone number or enquiry form on our website.
