Technology and Innovation

While you are busy innovating, you want to be sure you have support in place to ensure that your ideas and knowledge are being protected and you are making the most of your business’s potential, whether on- or off-line.

Our Technology and Innovation team brings together a range of experienced and specialist advisers for clients across the private, public and education sectors.

Technology is changing at a velocity that the law struggles to keep pace with. Our specialist expertise identifies the need for this fast-moving sector to obtain advice that is legally and commercially focused. By taking what the law has to offer and applying it to emerging technologies and media, we deliver sound, focused advice. In fact, you will find we combine all the strengths of an established legal firm with the modernity of new ideas and technologies.

We advise a broad range of clients through every stage of the business life cycle, from business start-ups to national and international technology companies. Our work in the technology sector has included advising on many high-profile IT projects, including the UK roll-out of chip and pin software and the negotiation of the deal for the largest digitisation project in the UK.

We have also advised a major supplier of financial software on a number of deals with banks and retailers, large corporations on the purchase of telecoms systems, and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) on liability issues and customer strategies arising from the hosting of infringing content.

Acting on behalf of various public sector organisations, we have helped with the purchase of key IT systems including library systems, student databases and customer management software and continue to advise a range of clients on software development, supply and maintenance, domain name disputes, outsourcing, licensing, service level arrangements, acceptable use policies and staff IT monitoring.

We work closely with our clients, building up an understanding of them and their business, providing practical and relevant advice to help them achieve their company goals and adding value throughout their development.
