Sarah Stuart

Sarah is a dual-qualified solicitor in English and Scots Law with extensive experience advising construction and engineering companies and energy sector businesses. Sarah also advises public and statutory bodies, including local councils and port authorities, as well as educational institutions such as schools and, historically, universities.

Caitlin Williams

Caitlin is a second seat Trainee Solicitor in our Commercial Litigation team in Edinburgh. She completed her first seat in Personal Injury.

Caitlin studied at the University of Aberdeen and completed her LLB in Law with English Law and the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice. Before commencing her traineeship, Caitlin worked in Clyde & Co’s Catastrophic Injury and Large Loss team.

She is interested in litigation and dispute resolution and brings a thoughtful, practical approach to her work.

Oliver Ramsay

Oliver is a final seat Trainee Solicitor in the Commercial Litigation team. He commenced his Training Contract in June 2024 and completed his first three seats in Residential Conveyancing, Private Client and Family. 

Oliver graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, where he developed a strong foundation in legal principles. Prior to embarking upon a legal career, Oliver spent time travelling in Australia.

Rachel Murphy

Rachel is a final seat Trainee Solicitor in the Commercial Litigation team. She commenced her Training Contract in September 2024 and completed her first three seats in Land & Rural Business, Private Client and Employment.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Diploma in Professional Legal Practice from the University of Glasgow, and completed an LLM in International and European Law, with a specialisation in Human Rights Law from the University of Gent in Belgium.  

Malcolm Marshall

Malcolm is a final seat Trainee Solicitor in the Commercial Litigation team in Dundee.  He joined Thorntons in September 2024 and completed his first three seats in Corporate, Employment and Commercial Real Estate.

Malcolm graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Abertay and Diploma in Professional Legal Practice from the University of Glasgow.

He prides himself on developing strong relationships with clients, while working together to achieve a combined goal.

Daisy Johnston

Daisy is a final seat Trainee Solicitor in the Commercial Litigation team. She commenced her Training Contract with Thorntons in September 2024 and completed her first three seats in Private Client, Residential Conveyancing and Family.

Prior to commencing her Training Contract, Daisy gained valuable experience in residential property and family, and prides herself on understanding each client’s unique needs and providing clear focussed advice.

Gary McPhail

Gary is a Solicitor in our Commercial Litigation team. He advises both businesses and individual clients on a wide range of dispute resolution matters including contentious executry, debt recovery, contract disputes, consumer rights, insolvency, and criminal defence.

Ross Faulds

Ross is a Solicitor in our Commercial Litigation team. He advises individuals, business owners, and families on a range of matters including commercial disputes, insolvency, and licensing.

Ross strives to provide commercially focused advice and excellent client care. He is known for his strong drafting skills.

Away from the office, Ross holds a voluntary role at Greenbackers as an Under 30 Climate Ambassador, which helps him stay engaged with young professionals interested in the commercial side of green innovation. 
 

Ian Sargison

Ian is a Solicitor in our Commercial Litigation team, advising a wide range of clients including public service providers, universities, SMEs, family businesses, individuals, and insolvency practitioners.

Ian advises on matters such as property disputes, debt recovery, insolvency, housing, commercial leases, and professional negligence. He can also assist with guardianships, and alcohol licensing. 

Stephanie Carr

Full-service law firm Thorntons has appointed a new Partner to its growing Glasgow team, where the firm is opening its first permanent office.
