About Gary McPhail

Gary is a Solicitor in our Commercial Litigation team. He advises both businesses and individual clients on a wide range of dispute resolution matters including contentious executry, debt recovery, contract disputes, consumer rights, insolvency, and criminal defence.

Recognised for his client-focused approach, Gary works closely with clients to understand their concerns and address them with practical, efficient solutions. With a particular passion for advocacy, Gary is dedicated to providing clear, confident representation for his clients and regularly appears in Sheriff Courts across Scotland.

A graduate of the University of Strathclyde with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Diploma in Professional Legal Practice, Gary is committed to supporting the next generation of lawyers. In 2025, he was invited by the Law Society of Scotland to join their Young Leaders Panel, reflecting his ongoing commitment to widening access within the profession. In 2026, Gary was invited to be a founding member of the Law Society of Scotland’s Social Mobility Forum. Gary also tutors on the Mock Court Project and is a regular speaker at college/university events. 

Gary is a member of the Contentious Trusts Association, a network of specialist contentious executry lawyers. 

In May 2026, Gary was appointed to the Law Society of Scotland’s Contract and Delict Sub-Committee, through which he will meet regularly with stakeholders and respond to consultations and legislation on a wide range obligation law issues.
