Lindsay Johnston

With over 32 years working in the legal industry, Lindsay is the Business Manager for our Business Law and Dispute Resolution and Claims team.

Together with the Heads of Department Ewan Miller and Sandra Sutherland and team leads Noele McClelland, Chris Allan, Gary Thomas, and Liam McMonagle, Lindsay works to deliver our business management goals for these areas. This involves looking at ways to improve our service to clients and ensure our processes and systems are effective in achieving our planned goals.

Donald Thomson

Donald is a second seat Trainee Solicitor in the Commercial Litigation team.  He commenced his Training Contract in September 2023 and completed his first seat in the Corporate team. Prior to commencing his Training Contract he worked in the Risk and Compliance team.

Donald has a particular interest in Insolvency Law and is currently undertaking academic research in this area. As such, he is engaged with a wide network of UK, European and International academics and industry representatives in insolvency law.

Beth Simpson

Beth is a second seat Trainee Solicitor in the Commercial Litigation team. She joined Thorntons in September 2023 and completed her first seat in Private Client.

Prior to commencing her Training Contract with the firm in September 2023, Beth gained experience as a Caseworker within the In-Court Advice Project, based in Dundee Sheriff Court and strives to make the legal process as straight-forward as possible for clients.

Stephanie Carr

Full-service law firm Thorntons has appointed a new Partner to its growing Glasgow team, where the firm is opening its first permanent office.

Stephanie Carr

Accredited Specialist in Insolvency Law.

A Partner in our Dispute, Resolution and Claims team, Stephanie advises clients on a wide range of commercial litigation, debt recovery and dispute resolution matters. She also deals with contentious personal and corporate insolvency cases.

Rory Mellis

A Solicitor in the Commercial Litigation team, Rory works alongside Partners Mike Kemp and Anne Miller.  

Rory acts for a range of clients including individuals and SME’s, and advises on commercial dispute resolution and litigation matters, including; contract disputes, consumer rights, contentious matters, insolvency applications, and property dispute issues.

Rory prides himself on his personal, pragmatic, and commercially focused advice which his clients appreciate.

Eilidh Withers

Eilidh is a final seat Trainee Solicitor in the Commercial Litigation team. She joined Thorntons in September 2022 and completed her first seats in Family Law and Private Client.

Eilidh graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Diploma in Professional Legal Practice from the University of Strathclyde and more recently, gained an LLM in International Law from the University of Glasgow.

Prior to commencing her Training Contract, Eilidh gained experience was a volunteer Student Advisor at the University Law Clinic.

Catriona Kemp

Catriona is a final seat Trainee Solicitor in the Commercial Litigation team. She joined Thorntons in September 2022 and completed her first seats in Private Client, Family Law and Personal Injury. Prior to joining Thorntons, Catriona gained experience in a financial services organisation.

Catriona has a particular interest in Family Law and Civil Litigation and prides herself on her practical and empathetic approach to clients, providing solutions for each client’s individual need.

Michael Wells

Michael is a Legal Director of DR&C in our Edinburgh office. With over 30 years’ experience in dispute resolution in the Sheriff Court, Court of Session and regulatory tribunals, he has extensive knowledge of debt recovery, insolvency, professional negligence, contractual and property disputes. including neighbour and landlord and tenant disputes. He also deals with alternative dispute resolution, including mediation.

Baktosch Gillan

A Solicitor in Thorntons’ Commercial Litigation team, Baktosch works alongside Partner, Scott Milne and Legal Director, Mike Kemp. He acts for a broad range of clients including media organisations, universities, SME’s and individuals.
