Frankie Cusack

Frankie is a second seat Trainee Solicitor in the Intellectual Property team.  He commenced his Training Contract in September 2023 and completed his first seat in Corporate Ventures & Innovations.

Prior to commencing his Training Contract, Frankie worked with the Ventures & Innovations team assisting with the implementation of digital transformation projects aligned to the firm’s strategy.

He has a keen interest in emerging technologies and supporting start-up companies in the pursuit of their strategic goals and objectives.

Hannah Smethurst

A Solicitor in our specialist Intellectual Property, Technology and Media team, Hannah assists clients with a range of Intellectual Property matters including copyright, Trade Marks, commercial contracts, software agreements and licensing arrangements. She also works alongside the Corporate Ventures and Innovations team, advising start-up and early stage businesses. 

Hannah has a particular interest in science and technology agreements, working with clients across numerous sectors, from life sciences to gaming.

Charlotte Cockburn

Charlotte is a Solicitor in our Intellectual Property team. She assists clients on a range of Intellectual Property matters including copyright issues, Data Protection and GDPR, commercial contracts, Trade Marks and IP and software licensing.

Kirsty Stewart Solicitor and Trade Mark Attorney

Brand is crucial to any business owner. Name, logo, symbols, slogan – even colour – can be associated with a brand. It’s vital that assets such as these are protected with a trade mark which provides the legal right to stop others from using a brand that has been developed and invested in.

Katy Dow

Katy has specialisted in Intellectual Property since completing her Traineeship with the firm and qualifying as a Solicitor.

She advises individuals, businesses and public sector bodies on a wide range of Intellectual Property matters including commercialisation, licensing, the protection of confidential information and general commercial contracts. Katy has a particular interest in research and commercial collaborations and copyright law.

Katy strives to provide excellent client care and commercially focused advice. She is also a Notary Public.

Liam McMonagle

Dual qualified in Scots and English law

Liam is a highly experienced commercial lawyer whose practice covers corporate and commercial work with a particular focus on the technology, gambling and education sectors. His practice is a mix of advisory work, commercial transactions and dispute resolution.

Liam joined Thorntons in 2010 from Dundas & Wilson (now CMS) having previously worked in London for leading media firm Harbottle & Lewis.

Kirsty Stewart

Dual qualified Chartered Trade Mark Attorney and Accredited Specialist in Intellectual Property.

Kirsty is a Partner in the Intellectual Property, Technology and Media team and a specialist in trade mark and brand protection matters. Kirsty is also dual qualified as a Trade Mark Attorney and heads up Thorntons’ in house trade mark agency.
