Employment Law | Reducing Workforce costs, Reorganisation and Redundancy.

As we make our way through the Government stages of easing lockdown, talk has turned to returning to business. For businesses who have continued to operate during the pandemic, and for businesses reopening after months of closure, future revenue levels are going to be very difficult to predict. Therefore businesses will be feeling an increasing financial burden and many will urgently need to review their operating costs.

Many employers, particularly those who have utilised the Government’s Job Retention Scheme, will want to do all they can to reduce costs in a way which preserves jobs. Often this will involve the need to make changes to employment contracts.

Regrettably for some businesses redundancies will be a very real possibility in order to keep the business afloat.  Whether the redundancies are few or large-scale, employers must ensure they understand and follow the legal framework set out for this process.

Employment Law specialist, Noele McClelland hosted a short webinar to discuss ways of managing and reducing workforce costs now and in the future.

Topics covered included:

  • Job preservation – ways to reduce workforce costs without resorting to redundancies.
  • The Redundancy process – the importance of getting it right!
  • Particular points to consider arising out of COVID-19, such as remote consultations.
