Data Protection | An Update on Data Sharing

Data Protection | An Update on Data Sharing

Many modern organisations reply upon data sharing, and with the increased use of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, the value and role of data as an asset to organisations has increased as well.  Whether used for operational purposes, collaborative use with other partners or as a means to identify opportunities, many data driven organisations can demonstrate a need to share data.

As organisations increasingly come under scrutiny for how they collect and use data, data sharing can often feel like a difficult task. Ensuring you remain compliant and process data in accordance with the GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 is vital.

Data Protection specialists, Loretta Maxfield and Morgan O’Neill hosted a short webinar to discuss the key issues faced by organisations who share data.

Topics covered included:

  • What is required from organisations when sharing personal data with third party data processors/data controllers
  • A look at the forthcoming ICO Data Sharing Code, which will be hugely relevant for controller to controller sharing
  • A specific look at international data transfers in light of Schrems II case
  • Practical tips for embedding good practice into data sharing activity across your organisation
  • A look to the future: the emergence of third party data trusts
