Mike is a Partner in our Dispute Resolution team, with extensive experience in both litigation and mediation. Since qualifying as a Solicitor in 2005, he has built a broad civil litigation practice, including commercial real estate, and is a member of the property litigation association.
Clients value Mike’s down-to-earth manner and his ability to identify the key issues early. He is focused on helping parties reach the best possible outcome, whether that is through mediation, facilitated negotiation or, where needed, court action. He also excels in advising on cost management and the different options available to parties, and in representing clients in complex cases before the Court of Session.
Mike has particular experience in commercial disputes and principled negotiation, and is an accredited mediator. He is known for his ability to lead structured, constructive discussions that help parties move beyond fixed positions and find common ground. His approach is impartial, respectful and focused on giving each party the opportunity to participate fully and work towards their own solution in a confidential, non-adversarial setting.
Mike’s focus as a mediator is on helping parties reach the best possible settlement without the need for court action, but his litigation background means he is also well placed to understand the alternatives if resolution cannot be achieved.
Alongside his wider dispute resolution work, Mike works pro bono as a mediator with the Strathclyde Mediation Clinic, helping parties resolve simple procedure court actions across Scotland.
