Thorntons promotes three new Partners as part of senior appointments supporting ambitious growth

Michael Wells, Robin Dunlop and Lisa Hainey

Leading independent law firm Thorntons has announced the promotion of three new Partners as part of a significant round of senior appointments across its offices, reinforcing its commitment to nurturing talent, building specialist expertise and accelerating success for clients, colleagues and communities in Scotland.

Lisa Hainey (Private Client, Cupar), Michael Wells (Dispute Resolution and Claims, Edinburgh), and Robin Dunlop (Land and Rural Business, Edinburgh) have all been promoted to Partner. Their appointments highlight Thorntons’ continued focus on developing future leadership from within and investing in key practice areas where client demand continues to grow.

Nick Barclay, Chair at Thorntons, said: “Our new partners represent the very best of Thorntons – deep sector expertise, unwavering client focus and a commitment to collaboration. Their elevation reflects the strength of our people and our long-standing investment in developing legal talent.

“These appointments ensure we’re well placed to support continued growth, deliver for our clients, and create opportunities for our teams.”

The promotions come amid a period of strong performance and strategic expansion for Thorntons. In March, the firm announced its merger with Perthshire-based Macnabs, bringing five Partners and nearly 40 colleagues into the business and strengthening its footprint in Perthshire and Stirlingshire, expanding its ability to provide local expertise that supports businesses, individuals and communities.

Thorntons now employs more than 640 people across 12 locations, including 77 partners. It also continues to grow its service lines, recently introducing its first dedicated Banking Partner, Ricardo Matteo, in Glasgow, and expanding its Immigration and Data Protection services UK-wide.
