Following a seven-year term as Joint Managing Partner, Scott returned to mainstream client work in 2019. Over more than 30 years, he has developed a broad dispute resolution and regulatory advice practice, advising clients of all sizes on how to resolve a wide range of issues in a practical, efficient and cost-conscious way.
Scott is an experienced litigator and mediator, with a strong understanding of the commercial pressures businesses face. As Thorntons’ former Managing Partner, and through his wider board-level experience, he brings valuable insight into what makes a business successful and how disputes can affect both day-to-day operations and longer-term relationships. He has a long track record of helping business owners resolve disputes, both within their own organisations and with other businesses.
His mediation approach is built on neutrality, active listening and open questioning. He works with parties to get to the heart of the issue, understand what matters most to those involved and help them reach a resolution that works in practice for everyone. Clients value Scott for his calm judgement, commercial awareness and ability to provide swift, practical advice.
Scott is also a former member of the Law Society Client Protection Committee, which regulates solicitors’ compliance with the Account Rules and adjudicates on compensation applications from members of the public arising from solicitor dishonesty.
Scott also holds a leadership role as Chairman of Drumnor Investments Limited & Thorntons Wealth Management Limited, companies spun out of Thorntons Solicitors in 2014 and which currently manages more than £900m of clients’ assets.
Living in Angus himself, Scott serves as a Deputy Lieutenant for Angus, a role which supports the Lord-Lieutenant and Vice Lord-Lieutenant in promoting a spirit of co-operation by encouragement of the voluntary services and benevolent organisations.
