About Cameron Mathieson

Cameron is a Senior Solicitor in our specialist Land and Rural Business Team, advising on the whole sphere of rural matters.

His particular area of interest is succession planning and asset protection for farmers and the estate owners. This advice covers all aspects of succession planning including partnership & asset restructuring, capital taxation (Land and Buildings Transaction Tax, Inheritance Tax & Capital Gains Tax), and the preparation of Wills. Providing a comprehensive service, Cameron is able support his clients in structuring their estates in a tax efficient way to help secure Agricultural Property Relief (APR) and Business Property Relief (BPR) where possible.

Cameron also advises on the legal aspects of rural land management; including issues arising in relation to sporting rights. The notoriously complex area of agricultural tenancies often features in land management discussions and Cameron is able to provide detailed advice on Secure Agricultural Tenancies, as well as the fixed term tenancies for both the Landlord and the Tenant. This includes advising parties on ongoing rights and obligations, and matters which arising at the termination of a tenancy.  

In addition, Cameron regularly acts in rural conveyancing matters, including the sale and purchase of farms, estates, and forests across Scotland. This ranges from traditional farms and estates, to multi-site forestry portfolios and commercial plantations over a thousand acres. Complementing this, Cameron is also able to advise on agreements relating to Carbon Credits and transacting on sites where there environmental projects and agreements are place. 

He is a Writer to His Majesty’s Signet, one of the oldest professional bodies in the world, and a Notary Public. Cameron is also a member of the Agricultural Law Association, and is a life member of the Royal Highland Agricultural Society of Scotland.

Outside of work, Cameron sits on the Central Regional Committee for Scottish Land and Estates, and is a Trustee of the Edinburgh Angus Club, an education focused charity.
