Leading independent Scottish law firm Thorntons has expanded its market-leading Commercial Real Estate team, with the appointment of two highly experienced experts.

Simone Young, who has more than 25 years’ experience of advising all parties involved in the construction sector, joins as partner and Stephanie Zak, who has worked in both practice and industry during her 17-year career, joins the firm as commercial real estate consultant.

The appointments enhance the firm’s ability to offer clients comprehensive, sector-specific advice throughout the entire lifecycle of commercial property and construction projects, from acquisition and funding through to construction and delivery.

Thorntons has one of the largest commercial real estate teams in Scotland and is highly experienced in dealing with all types of property and businesses, from portfolios of flats, retail and industrial units to care homes, shopping centres, and purpose-built office developments.

Simone Young, who joins the firm’s Commercial Real Estate team in Edinburgh, is a leading name in non-contentious construction law. She advises on all aspects of construction procurement, including drafting and negotiating contracts, professional appointments, collateral warranties, and construction elements of wider development and funding agreements. 

She brings a wealth of experience advising developers, funders and private clients, and is ranked by both Legal 500 and Chambers UK for her work in this field.
