Thorntons adds seven newly qualified solicitors to firm

Leading Scottish law firm Thorntons has announced the appointment of seven newly qualified solicitors, all of whom have successfully completed the firm's  two-year traineeship programme.

The newly qualified solicitors have joined several practice areas across Thorntons’ Dundee, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth offices.

Sean Lieder and Hannah Smethurst joined our Corporate team in Edinburgh and Walter Buckman joined the Corporate team in Glasgow.  Euan McLaughlan and Nikia Ferrie have both joined the Commercial Property team in Dundee, and Gemma Vear and Tim McKeown join the Land and Rural business teams in Perth and Edinburgh, respectively.

Gemma Vear, who joins the Land and Rural business team, said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my traineeship at Thorntons. As a full-service law firm, Thorntons can offer a truly varied traineeship. During my two years, I have had the opportunity to complete four seats in different departments.

“I have been able to work within the Land and Rural business, Private Client, Family, and Corporate departments, which has been great for gaining a rounded experience and exposure. Regardless of the department or location, each of the teams I have worked in and all the colleagues I have met have been welcoming, friendly and supportive.

“I am delighted to be returning to the Land and Rural business team as a newly qualified solicitor, based between our Perth and Edinburgh offices. I am looking forward to building on my experience with an interesting and varied caseload, whilst developing a specialism and progressing in my career within a talented team at an ambitious firm.” Colin Graham, Chair of Thorntons, said: “It is extremely rewarding to welcome these exceptional new solicitors to the Thorntons team.

“Throughout their traineeships, they have consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to the firm's values. We are confident they will flourish in their chosen specialisations and make valuable contributions to our clients across Scotland.

“Investing in a strong talent pipeline is crucial to the future success of our business.”

Thorntons’ traineeship programme offers graduates a genuinely diverse experience covering everything from employment, corporate, intellectual property law and immigration, to family law, private client, personal injury, , and civil and commercial litigation. In addition to legal expertise, trainee solicitors will also build upon their general business, commercial and client care skills throughout the two-year traineeship and have the benefit of a Partner mentor to support their development and wellbeing.

Last year the firm appointed 17 graduates to its traineeship – its largest intake to date – following continued business growth.
