New mothers to get free advice on employment rights

Thorntons supports the National Childbirth Trust by hosting a seminar to ensure new and expectant mothers are aware of their employment rights and know how to benefit from them.
The free pregnancy and maternity seminar, taking place in Perth, will be hosted by Thorntons’ employment law specialist partner Debbie Fellows, who will provide useful information to women on how to deal with their employers around maternity leave and returning to work.

Debbie said: “This is a great opportunity for expectant or new mothers who want to learn more about their employment rights.

“Attendance at the seminar will provide mothers with an overview of their employment rights, from statutory maternity pay and shared parental leave, to keeping in touch days and flexible working.”

Rachel Will, NCT Perth Organiser said: “One of the most common worries for new mums is how will being pregnant or having a child affect their work? Will they be able to say no to certain tasks or working hours? When they return to work, what if they change their mind about what hours they want to work or can they ask for a certain shift pattern to work with childcare?

“At Perth NCT we are a charity that offers support to local parents and we're delighted that Thorntons are partnering with us to offer a free seminar to pregnant mums, mums on maternity leave and working mums to answer all of these questions and more.”

The National Childbirth Trust Seminar is free to all and will take place on Tuesday 1 November at Norie Miller Studio, Perth Concert Hall from 12.30pm.

Children are more than welcome, as there will be ample space for prams. Lunch will also be provided for those who attend.

Booking for this seminar is essential. There are a limited number of places available, for full details of the seminars and to book a space in advance, please book your here>>
