Tayside lawyers give blood banks a boost

Caring staff at Thorntons law firm welcomed a blood donor team to their boardroom last week - encouraging employees to donate.

The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) visited staff at Whitehall House, Dundee allowing them to give blood while at work.

The kind-hearted employees made a huge effort to support the worthwhile cause, with more than 50 blood donor volunteers across the one day session.

Colin Graham, partner at Thorntons was one of the donors who took time out of his day to give blood.

He said: "I used to donate blood regularly outside of working hours but fell out of the habit. Having the SNBTS come into our boardroom made the process of donating very straight forward and easy.

"Donating blood is extremely important and I'm thrilled we have been able to help. Setting up four donating beds in our boardroom has been a quick and easy process. Bringing the blood donor team on site encouraged many colleagues to participate and I would like to thank everyone for their fantastic support.

"SNBTS is constantly looking to attract new donors and we hope our efforts inspire many more donations. Our staff have been extremely positive about the session and we have plans to make this a regular occurrence in the office."

Gwen Fenton, recruitment and publicity officer at the SNBTS, said: "This was the first time SNBTS has visited the Thorntons offices and it was a major success. It was fantastic that so many employees turned up to donate. SNBTS do now offer small board room sessions, so if this is something your company is interested in please let us know.

"On behalf of the SNBTS I would like to thank Thorntons for making such a special effort and we hope to return to Whitehall House in the future to encourage even more staff to give blood."
