He advises on all aspects of immigration, asylum, nationality and human rights law and has a wide client base which includes individuals, businesses, charities and community groups both in the UK and overseas. Jamie has particular expertise in advising public and private companies on global talent strategy and is notable for being one of the few Scottish solicitors with extensive experience in all aspects of high level corporate and business immigration.
Jamie said: “ “My area of expertise is a new and valuable addition to the service that Thorntons can provide to clients. The firm has an excellent reputation across Scotland and I look forward to sharing my specialist knowledge and skills to further enhance the offering to clients.”
Scott Milne, joint managing partner at Thorntons, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Jamie as a our newest partner.
“His background is extremely impressive and his knowledge and experience on immigration is well recognised. Jamie’s appointment as a partner is part of our strategy to grow and enhance our specialist offering to clients on an area of the law which many companies have to obtain from London and Edinburgh.
He will be an important addition to our team and we look forward to working with him as the firm continues to move ahead.”
As well as having extensive practical experience in the First Tier Tribunal, Upper Tribunal and the Court of Session, Jamie also sits on the Law Society of Scotland's Constitutional Law Sub Committee, tutors human rights law and occasionally lecturers on the Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Glasgow as well as at other European Universities.
