Thorntons - We have 31 partners, over 330 employees and offices in Dundee, Perth, Arbroath, Forfar and Edinburgh. Recruitment - We are recruiting trainees for 2010 (deadline 31 December 2008) Application and Interview Process - To apply for a traineeship with Thorntons please apply online or send us an Application Form (pdf). Our interview process is based on finding out about you, we do not want to test your legal knowledge. All applicants will be invited to one of our Group Selection Days. Successful applicants will then be invited to an aptitude test. The final stage of our Trainee selection process will be an interview, which will take place in our Dundee office. Salary - The starting salary for trainees in June 2007 is £15000. The current year two salary is £18500 (trainee salaries are reviewed annually before June). Trainee Retention - Over the past 2 years 100% of our trainees have been offered positions with us on qualification, with a 100% acceptance rate. Traineeship - We offer a varied and balanced traineeship with experience in several departments and locations. Training - Our trainees experience real work and client contact. They are assisted by the services of legal support staff and administrators, leaving them to do the work of a lawyer. The trainee programme is supported by a mixture of on and off-the-job training. Trainee Support - Supporting our Trainees is paramount to Thorntons. We aim to provide a positive learning and development environment supported by Trainers, the HR Team and others. Work Life Balance - Our trainees report working days of between 7½ and 9 hours. Social Events - We have an active social committee who organise firm events and nights out. For Thorntons the recruitment of trainees represents a significant investment in the future of the firm and our ability to service the community. In essence we are not recruiting trainees but seeking individuals whose commitment to the law, servicing people and this part of Scotland, will allow them to develop into Solicitors, Associates and beyond. This important process is viewed as selecting the people who will have the opportunity in the future to shape and develop the firm and its role within the community. With our increasing variety of work types and an opportunity to learn from the best legal talent around, we offer an excellent training ground for individuals, supporting and developing not just their skills as lawyers but as people who have the ability to positively influence those they encounter. If you are serious about a long term future with Taysides most progressive law firm, then please return a completed Application Form to our H R Department. If you have any queries please email traineeships@thorntons-law.co.uk. We look forward to reviewing your achievements.
