Winding Up An Estate

Dealing with the loss of a family member or a friend is always difficult. If you are an Executor there will be a number of important matters for you to deal with after the death, however, many people are unaware of what is expected of Executors when winding up estates.

It is important then, that you should seek advice from lawyers who are not only experienced in executry procedures and who will assist in ensuring the affairs of the deceased are properly organised, but whom you can trust to shoulder as much of the burden as possible.

Our dedicated team of lawyers advise many clients on all matters relating to the winding up of the estate from registering the death through to investing legacies.  To assist those who have been appointed Executor, we have prepared an easy to understand information booklet, which is available on request.

We are also able assist families where a person has died leaving no valid or complete Will arranging through the relevant Court, for the appointment of a family member as Executor and then handling the estate on their behalf.

With an experienced legal team administering executry estates, in each of our offices, we will:

  • investigate and detail the estate as at date of death
  • arrange for payment of any Inheritance Tax
  • obtain Confirmation (in England, known as Probate)
  • gather in the estate and then distributing it according either to the Will, or, if no Will, the laws of Intestancy.

A full and detailed account is then prepared showing all the financial aspects and financial approval obtained from the Executors.

Aware of the delicate nature of such situations, our experience and caring staff will provide support and reassurance to families in dealing with these matters following on bereavement.
