1 PURPOSES OF GRANTS
By the Will of the late Mrs. Emma Grace Caird or Marryat, who was a sister of the late Sir James Caird, Baronet of Dundee, a sum was appointed to be held in Trust for the foundation of Travelling Scholarships to be known as Sir James Cairds Travelling Scholarships in (1) ENGINEERING, (2) ELECTRICITY and ELECTRONICS, and (3) AERONAUTICS.
2 ELIGIBILITY
Applicants, who may be of either sex, must be of Scottish nationality, i.e. either (a) having been born in Scotland or (b) if not born in Scotland having at least one parent or grandparent who was born in Scotland.
3 NATURE AND VALUE OF TRAVELLING SCHOLARSHIP GRANTS
The grant can be used towards travel, subsistence and accommodation costs (but not conference fees). It is intended to support attendance at overseas conferences, and is open to junior Engineering Research Staff and Research Students. The maximum grant is £500. Awards are limited in number and are made annually in May. Applications must be received by 28 February.
4 PAYMENT
Payment will normally be made in one instalment to the University/Institution where the applicant is based.
