Legal Aid

If you require legal advice, but are unsure if you can afford it, you may be entitled to Legal Aid.

Legal Aid applies to those deemed to be eligible and seeking advice in civil matters, such as

  • divorce and other matters affecting family and children
  • actions for compensation for injuries resulting from an accident
  • housing matters such as rent or mortgage arrears, repairs, eviction
  • debt

Criminal legal aid may be available for legal advice and representation in criminal court proceedings. In some circumstances, criminal legal aid may automatically be available immediately and without the necessity to make an application.

Our team of litigation lawyers are experienced in assessing whether you would be eligible for financial assistance under the Legal Aid scheme and will be able to advise you of how best to progress matters, whether you are eligible or not.

You should, however, be aware that Legal Aid is not always free. Even if you are granted Legal Aid you may have to pay part or even all of the costs of your case depending on your disposable income and capital.
