Thorntons Success Prompts Move to Former Gym Premises

Tayside’s largest law firm Thorntons is preparing to move its Perth operation to new premises in George Street. Over 30 Thorntons’ employees will move from their two existing offices to the new premises, later this year.

The move follows the signing of deal to lease the property from K W Properties Ltd., a joint venture between A & L King and the Kilmartin Property Group who have acquired and are currently refurbishing the former health & fitness premises and the adjoining retail unit formerly occupied by Barnardos.

Thorntons has more than doubled in size since 2000 and has now outgrown its present accommodation in the town.

Marking a significant financial investment for the fast growing legal business, the new offices will provide a modern working environment for the partners and staff. Managing Partner Nick Barclay said: “The move is a significant investment for us and is a consequence of our growth over the last five years. The new suite of offices in George Street will offer a more spacious environment for our staff and clients and allows for the continued growth of Thorntons as a legal firm and employer.”

Commenting for K W Properties Neil McDougall said “It has been a very real challenge to create a twenty first century office in a Victorian shell but we have worked closely with Thorntons and A & L King to deliver the necessary solutions”.

Thorntons was established as a legal business in Dundee in 1857 by Sir Thomas Thornton and has grown steadily to become one of Scotland’s largest and most successful law firms. It currently employs over 300 people and has offices in Perth, Dundee, Edinburgh, Forfar and Arbroath specialising in Private Client work, Business Law, Property, Intellectual Property, Litigation and Finance.
