Leading law firm Thorntons Solicitors is holding a free seminar for people in Dundee to highlight the legal issues surrounding older people.
It is predicted that they will make up a quarter of the population by 2036, and Tayside's largest law firm is taking steps to explain options for funding care.
The seminar will feature a series of short presentations, specific case studies and practical examples of the issues.
Questions can be answered on issues which often raise concerns such as putting a property in the name of a family member and its effect on the cost of your care home in later life.
Funding the cost of care and protecting your home and assets are not necessarily always straightforward as every case is different, but Thorntons' specialist team will present varied case studies, answer questions and explain the legal and practical solutions available to help both the elderly person and the carer or family.
Talks will also be given on the benefits of a Will and of Powers of Attorney, and on a new service launched by the firm to enable elderly people to continue living in their own homes while the burden of dealing with paperwork and some practical problems is removed from them.
Malcolm Farquhar, partner at Thorntons said: "You are never too young to start planning for the future, and steps can be taken now to protect your assets and ensure that all of your personal and financial affairs can be dealt with flexibly and effectively in later life."
,He added: "We have been acting for and advising elderly clients and their relatives for many years. As statistics show, we are all living for longer which may mean that more of us will need more assistance as we get older.
"Nowadays it is also very often the case that family members are either not living nearby or working full time and are unable to offer that assistance, so we hope that the seminar will allow people to come along to get key information which will make them aware of options available."
