The increasing prevalence of businesses, individuals or couples seeking to acquire property as a simple long term investment or a means of supplementing retirement income in later life will be examined in detail at a seminar at Discovery Point in Dundee this week.
Leading experts from Solicitors Thorntons, Chartered Accountants Henderson Loggie and Chartered Surveyors J&E Shepherd will take part in the Property Matters seminar at Discovery Point on Thursday February 16th at 4 p.m.
Chris Grinyer, Partner with J&E Shepherd, will give an overview of the Scottish property market and advise on what buyers should look out for when investing in both commercial and residential property.
Angela Haig, Director of Taxation Services with Henderson Loggie, will talk about the tax issues buyers need to consider when investing in property including capital gains tax, inheritance tax, VAT and tax efficient ownership structures.
David Rose, Partner with Thorntons, will examine the legal aspects of acquiring and selling property including the special requirements of some investors. David will also give advice on Stamp Duty Land Tax and leases.
"Property as an investment vehicle is an increasingly prevalent phenomenon in our society more often than not when property is offered for sale in Tayside and Fife nowadays we can expect to see interest not just from house hunters but from institutional and private buyers whose primary interest is long term investment," explained Mr Rose.
"This seminar is aimed at those people who already own property for investment purposes or who are considering acquiring property for that reason."
