Thorntons reports boost in activity as buyers hope to cash in on deals
There hasn't been a better to buy a property in in Perth in more than a decade, according to a local property expert.
James McKay, Manager at Thorntons Property Services, has seen a 17 per cent rise in properties coming on to the market in 2011 compared with 2010 which he says is a welcoming sign for the summer months.
James who has worked in the local property sector for more than a decade, said: "This year has taken off like a steam train for properties coming on to the market all across Perthshire from one bedroom city centre flats to five-bedroom luxury villas in the countryside.
"We recently launched a new website to make searching for properties across Perthshire even more accessible to house-hunters which may have helped the boost in movement.
"The market is still difficult but I can't t remember such an increase in the space of a year in my 17 years in the job. To me, this clearly demonstrates people are still as interested in moving as they were when the market was stronger.
"Although conditions remain difficult for sellers especially in terms of mortgage lending which has forced many buyers to put on the brakes, our figures show that hasn't stopped large numbers of people taking the plunge and putting their house on the market to tempt a buyer.
"With an increase of quality houses on the market, there hasn't been a better time in the last 12 years for buyers to snap up the great deals in Perthshire."
