A team of Thorntons lawyers is gearing up for a monstrous challenge biking and hiking up to 73 miles in 24 hours along the banks of Loch Ness for the Maggies Monster Bike and Hike 2007.
The Thorntons Midnight Runners and Strugglers will be joining around 1,000 participants at the cancer charitys event which takes place on Saturday, May 5 and Sunday, May 6 along the Great Glen Way, between Fort William and Inverness.
Thorntons partners
Lesley Larg,
Gillian Buchanan,
Craig Nicol,
Ken Thomson and
Sandy McDonald, and solicitor Mark McLaughlin, will first bike 30 miles and then choose to hike 8, 22 or 43 miles to the events Bronze, Silver and Gold finish lines.
Starting in Fort William, under the shadow of Ben Nevis, participants will take in some of Scotland's most awe-inspiring scenery, including views of Loch Ness, the Caledonian Canal and Urquhart Castle before reaching the Gold finish line in Inverness.
All team members are committed to raising £400 each for Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres but they have each set themselves a much higher personal goal of £1,000. The charity offers support and practical information to anyone affected by cancer, whether personally or through a friend or family member and operates facilities in Dundee, Inverness, Edinburgh and Glasgow as well as several English cities.
The Midnight Runners and Strugglers are hoping to complete the 73-mile Gold distance and are undertaking a rigorous training programme as they prepare for the challenge, during which they will be supported by colleagues. Team Leader, Lesley Larg, a partner in Thorntons Business Law Department, said: We are all training extremely hard at the moment and are looking forward to the challenge ahead for this very worthwhile cause.
