Tayside's leading legal firm urged music moguls to Go North as industry delegates gathered in Dundee for music festival.
Lesley Larg, partner at Thorntons, took to the mic as she addressed more than 50 music management staff last week as part of the Go North music festival at the Frigate Unicorn to encourage them to use legal professionals north of the border for Scottish-related industry business.
Much of the music-related legal work is still undertaken remotely by London-based lawyers, but Thorntons aimed to re-dress the balance by highlighting that legal advice can provided to artists in Scotland in a cost-effective, personalised manner beneficial to both record label and artist.
Lesley said: "A significant amount of music business is done in Scotland and there is an abundance of creative talent north of the border. Scotland also has a burgeoning live music scene which is the envy of many and has a number of longstanding venues, labels and publishers.
"Many Scottish artists use London legal firms and don't know the name of their lawyer. They may not be aware of the content of the contracts that they have signed or their obligations which is a significant risk.
"Thorntons has the proven, necessary experience and expertise to deliver sound advice on all music industry contract and related legal issues, and we feel it is in the best interest of all parties that Scottish-related music business is handled in Scotland."
