A big-hearted band of lawyers are tuning up for a charity gig to kick off a 'monster' fundraising campaign for Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres.
Thorntons Solicitors' unique nine-piece band The Full Tin Tin (suitably supported by their alter-egos, "Cargo") are putting on a special fundraising performance at the Doghouse in Dundee on Saturday 24 April in the run up to the Maggie's Monster Bike and Hike 2010 where Thorntons solicitors and friends will take to the dirt tracks for the gruelling 73-mile challenge in May.Tickets for the gig cost £5 and all proceeds will be going towards the Bike and Hike Fund.
The Full Tin Tinwas originally formed only to play a one-off gig for a staff Christmas party, but almost seven years later they are still going strong and have wowed audiences across Dundee,Fife and Edinburgh including a prime slot on the bill at Edinburgh's EICC alongside the legendary Proclaimers. The Full Tin Tin donate all their fees for charity and in the past have helped, amongst others, Cash for Kids, Nordoff Robbins, Marie Curie and Miles for Smiles. In May they are playing a gig at Prestonfield House in aid of the Princes Trust.
The firm raised £11,000 in 2008 for the cancer care centres and have built up a loyal following who continually support their ongoing fundraising efforts.
The Full Tin Tin is made up of business law partner Craig Nicol on vocals and accordion, property associate Margaret Allan, also on vocals. Kenneth Thomson, property partner and Gordon McBean, personal injury partner on guitars, Derek Reid retired former employment law partner on bass, litigation partner Gillian Buchanan on violin, land and rural business associate Christopher Lindley on trombone, land and rural business partner Elizabeth Plath on keyboard and vocals, and the only non-lawyer, the one and only Roy Anderson on drums
Craig Nicol at Thorntons, said: " The Full Tin Tin get a real kick out of our gigs and are delighted that we are able to raise such amazing amounts money for worthwhile charities such as Maggie's at the same time. However, the gigs we play rely entirely on the support of clients, colleagues and friends of the firm to come along and boost the coffers.People can buy tickets from Thorntons in advance or else come along on the night and pay on the door.
"This is also also a big and slightly emotional night for the Band, as it is Roy's last gig before he emigrates to Canada next month. We'll miss him hugely and we're determined to give him a great send off, so it should be quite a night for all concerned .don't miss it!" .
Valerie Busher, community fundraiser at Maggie's Dundee, added: "For many years Thorntons has been a great supporter to Maggie's, raising thousands of pounds towards helping us continue to provide the invaluable work we do everyday.
"As a wholly charitably funded organisation, we could not survive without the support of the local community through donations and are always genuinely grateful for efforts to help support our cause such as those of Thorntons."
