Elizabeth Plath, Partner and Accredited Specialist in Agricultural Law in the Land and Rural Business Team of Thorntons Solicitors said
"We welcome the Cabinet Secretary's statement concerning the Absolute Right to Buy in response to the Tenant Farming Forum. Acting on behalf of landlords and tenants alike, there is no doubt that the considerable uncertainty brought about by the 2003 Act has had an adverse affect on the agricultural letting sector. The statement indicates a positive approach by the Government to issues surrounding the Absolute Right to Buy and Agricultural tenancies. We hope suitable legislation will be introduced to remove the obstacles posed by the gap between 5 year Short Limited Duration Tenancies and 15 year Limited Duration Tenancies and all this will help to instill confidence in the landowning sector to let land on a more practical basis than at present.
