A group of Scottish law firms teamed up last week in Dundee, Angus and Perth to launch a local Collaborative Family Law service dedicated to resolving family disputes outside the court room.
Solicitors from Miller Hendry, Blackadders, Thorntons, McCash and Hunter, MacNabs and Kippen Campbell launched the pioneering service in Perth last week in a bid to drive the roll-out across Scotland by promoting its advantages.
Accountants, solicitors and other professionals came to find out more about the
solution-orientated alternative, as it allows both parties and their solicitors to come to their own agreements over issues such as property and finance.
As a result, many of the solicitors at the launch have taken the first steps towards receiving Collaborative Law training after national chair Kath Karlin confirmed a course would be taking place in the spring.
Graham Harding, one of the Collaborative Law solicitors involved in the service in Dundee, Perth and Angus, said: "We have had an extremely positive response from the legal and other professions.
"It's important that families and couples have the opportunity to access an alternative method of resolving disputes without a court case, and members of the group have already acted on behalf of clients who have seen first-hand the benefits of the fresh opportunity presented by Collaborative Law.
"We hope that by making people aware of Collaborative Law, parties can reach agreement with the advice and support of their solicitors throughout what can be a stressful, lengthy and costly process."
