Firms Join Forces with Local Talent to Raise Cash for Cancer Research

Two of Tayside's top firms are joining forces to celebrate local talent by sponsoring a special art show in aid of Cancer Research UK at Dundee University's Bonar Hall.

Tayside's leading solicitors Thorntons has teamed up with Henderson Loggie Chartered Accountants once again for the tenth biennial exhibition special evening on Thursday (8 April) which will showcase the work of more than 100 local artists.

Having raised more than £100,000 from the previous exhibitions, the event also receives support from the artists themselves who have all pledged a portion of their proceeds to the charity.

With around 350 paintings on display, the show aims to significantly add to the total raised for Cancer Research UK so far through past exhibitions.

Professor Kevin Hiom of Dundee University will officially launch the exhibition which will open its doors to the public on Friday (9 April).

Professior Hiom said: "It is a great pleasure to launch this event which demonstrates the continuing commitment and generosity of people across Tayside to raise vital funds for the fight against cancer.

"On behalf of cancer researchers in Dundee, I say a big 'thank you' to the artists and the sponsors, Thorntons and Henderson Loggie, in the knowledge that the money raised will help fund the pioneering cancer research in the newly-established Cancer Research UK Dundee Cancer Centre."

George Hay, chairman of Henderson Loggie, said: "Henderson Loggie is delighted once again to be supporting the work of Cancer Research alongside Thorntons and the many artists from across Tayside who will be represented at the exhibition.

"We are confident that we can add to the significant funds raised through previous exhibitions in order to help fund the charity's ongoing vital work."

Nick Barclay, managing partner at Thorntons, said: "Thorntons is delighted to be involved yet again in sponsoring the exhibition in partnership with Henderson Loggie.

"It has proven to be a huge success in the past and we have received overwhelming support which we hope will continue this year to support such a worthwhile charity which aims to beat cancer while providing frontline support networks for sufferers and their families."

Julie Cromar, president of Cancer Research's Dundee Committee, said: "For many years Thorntons and Henderson Loggie have been great supporters of Cancer Research, helping to raise thousands of pounds towards helping us continue carrying out vital research and provide services to those who need us.

"We are extremely grateful to firms such as these whose efforts help us make a difference to the lives of people affected by cancer."
