Tayside businesses welcome CBI president to Dundee

Businesses acrossTayside will join forces with Jim Mather MSP to welcome Confederation of
Business Industry (CBI) president Martin Broughton to Dundee.

After the success of last year's inaugural CBI Scotland Business dinner, Thorntons Solicitors has continued its support for the second annual business dinner alongside co-sponsors Willis Insurance Group and Clydesdale Bank on November 19 at the Apex hotel.

Mr Broughton, chairman of British Airways, will address the audience of employers and staff from local businesses with a keynote speech followed by Jim Mather MSP, Minister for Enterprise, Energy and Tourism.

The CBI aims to create and sustain optimum conditions in which businesses in the UK can compete and prosper.

Lobbying for UK business on national and international issues alongside the UK government, the CBI is currently working to limit the impact of the financial crisis on the real economy, ensuring that any regulations made in response to the changing climate do not destroy business competitiveness.

Jack Robertson, chairman of Thorntons, said: "The CBI dinner celebrates all that's best about business in Tayside, and we are delighted that Mr Broughton has chosen come to an area in Scotland which has seen remarkable growth in enterprise in recent years.

"The CBI members in Tayside hope to highlight the region not only as a great place to live and work, but a place with excellent potential for investors keen to grow and develop business in Scotland."

Jim Mather added: "I am looking forward to engaging with CBI members to hear of their progress and their strategies for tackling current challenges. This will also provide a basis for increased collaboration and joint determination to achieve healthier levels of increased sustainable growth."
