Buyers have been keen to reserve luxury homes at (pdf) development in Auchterhouse near Dundee, where six of the sites 16 detached properties have already been reserved off plan.
Building work on the low density development has only recently begun, but more than £3.6m-worth of its homes, averaging more than £600,000 each, have been sold so far as high-value homes continue to find buyers in Tayside, announced selling agents Thorntons Property Services.
George Solley, director of property sales for Thorntons, said: There is considerable activity in the new build market at present and buying off plan is becoming the norm. The success of The Braes in attracting such strong interest so early in its development shows that Dundee can support high-value projects such as this.
Over the last few years we have seen the provision of higher-value new build homes in and around the city to meet a demand which we knew existed, not only from those coming into the city but, as recent sales have shown, from local buyers already established in the area.
The upward movement of prices in the city over the last few years has also resulted in renewed confidence in property as a long term investment. The tax efficiency of investing in your main family home makes it an excellent option for those in a position to do so.
Dundee-based developer West Residential is behind the project on the 15 acre site at Auchterhouse. Once complete, it will boast 16 substantial detached residences with approximately 4,000 sq ft of internal floor space, integral double garages and spacious grounds.
Mr Solley added: These are exceptional family homes set in a select rural location, but only a few minutes from Dundee city centre. They are a great example of the type of property being sought by a quality of buyer that many in Dundee did not traditionally associate with the area.
Further new build developments catering for those looking for properties in the £300,000 to £500,000 are also attracting interest in a section of the market where many homeowners are now in a position to purchase due to the increasing values of their present family homes in the Dundee area.
