Lawyers Hit the Right Note for £5,000 Charity Windfall

A big-hearted band of musical lawyers has donated £5,000 to two local charities after performing a fundraising gig in St Andrews.

Thorntons Solicitors' unique nine-piece band The Full Tin Tin presented a cheque to Headway Tayside, which offers support to brain injury survivors and their families following a gig at the Mid Summer Ball.

The Full Tin Tin nominated Headway Tayside as one of two charities to benefit from the annual fundraiser – which has raised over £75,000 for charitable causes in total – with the band also pledging £2,500 to children's music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins this, coupled with a donation from an early Full Tin Tin gig, made a total of £3250 being handed over to Headway Tayside.

Originally formed to play a one-off gig at a staff Christmas party, but eight years later the talented troupe has wowed audiences across Dundee, Fife and Edinburgh – including a prime slot on the bill at Edinburgh's EICC alongside the Proclaimers.

Douglas Gentleman, one of the patrons of NHS Tayside and consultant at the Royal Victoria Hospital, said: "This is a great contribution to the good work that Headway Tayside does".

Linda Letford, Administrator of Headway Tayside who was presented with the cheque from the band said: "this donation is absolutely fantastic and will allow us to continue to provide support to brain injury survivors."

Gordon McBean, partner at Thorntons, has worked with both the national group Headway and also Headway Tayside through his role in the personal injury law team at the firm, and also the band's guitarist, said: "As part of Headway's recognised solicitors list I am aware of the great work that they do we are eager to continue supporting the charity locally through Headway Tayside.

"The St Andrews Mid Summer Ball has become an annual event for The Full Tin Tin and it was another great night, especially as we were able to help both Headway and Nordoff Robbins benefit from the money raised to help them continue their on-going valuable work across the local area."

The Full Tin Tin is made up of business law partner Craig Nicol on vocals and accordion, property associate Margaret Allan, also on vocals, Kenneth Thomson, property partner and Gordon McBean, on guitars, Derek Reid – retired former employment law partner – on bass, litigation partner Gillian Buchanan on violin, land and rural business partners Chris Lindley and Liz Barr on trombone and keyboards respectively and the only non-lawyer, Roy Anderson on drums.

The band has donated all its fees to charitable causes and has so far supported organisations including Maggies Centres, Cash for Kids, Marie Curie and RAF Leuchars Help for Heroes fund.
