Talented staff at Thorntons have today handed over £4000 to a Tayside charity in funds raised by playing a special live gig.
Musical partners and associates at Tayside's largest legal firm picked up their fiddles, guitars and trombones in aid of the Radio Tay listener's charity Caring for Kids at Hangar in Scone at the end of last year by donating all proceeds to the organisation that works to help youngsters in Tayside.
The cheque was presented to Ally Ballingall of Radio Tay.
The nine-piece band had originally formed only to play a one-off gig for a staff Christmas party, but five years later they are still going strong with eagerly-anticipated annual performances.
The band is made up of partners Derek Reid on bass guitar, Gordon McBean on guitar, Gillian Buchanan on violin, Craig Nicol on accordion and vocals, guitarist Ken Thomson, Liz Plath on keyboard and vocals and associates Chris Lindley on trombone, Margaret Allan on vocals and featuring guest drummer Roy Sanderson.
Gordon McBean, partner at Thorntons, said: "The band came about by chance, but has been kept going by its members who are not only enthusiastic but extremely talented.
"It has brought staff from across the firm together, who have a lot of fun rehearsing and ultimately entertain the rest of the staff with something a little bit different.
"We are delighted that the band has been such a success and most importantly that a significant contribution was raised for Caring for Kids by the efforts of all staff but I don't think we will be leaving our day jobs just yet."
Ally Ballingall of Radio Tay, added: "We are delighted that Caring for Kids continues to be Thorntons' chosen charity, once again their employees have surprised us with their additional fundraising efforts which are over and above the donations we already receive from the sponsorship and will-aid donations.
"Without the monies we receive from Thorntons, the number of children we assist each year would drop dramatically, for that reason, we are extremely grateful for their ongoing support."
