Thorntons strengthens IP team with partner appointment

Tayside's leading legal firm today announced a new partner promotion in its specialist Intellectual Property team.

Newly appointed partner at Thorntons, Liam McMonagle, will continue to strengthen the team's experience across the fast-moving creative industries sector in which it is actively involved.

Based in its Dundee headquarters, Liam – who is qualified in both Scots and English Law – works across IP and IT practice areas with a particular focus on media and entertainment work, IT supply arrangements and higher education.

He has also been recognised as a Leader in the Field by Chambers and Partners Review of Scottish media and entertainment lawyers.

The Strathclyde University graduate joined the firm in March 2010 from Dundas & Wilson's
Glasgow-based technology team.

He said: "Thorntons' Intellectual Property team is highly regarded across Scotland as at the forefront of the industry and I am excited to be continuing my work with partner Lesley Larg to build upon our experience and continue growing."

Nick Barclay, managing partner at Thorntons, added: "Liam specialises in intellectual property and technology law and brought a wealth of experience, clients and contacts with him to the firm.

"Our IP and Technology Unit continues to go from strength to strength and I am looking forward to seeing Liam, Lesley and the team further develop this area of the business in the coming years."
