Tayside's leading estate agency has experienced a considerable upturn in seasonal sales despite the current economic instability.
Thorntons Property Services, which has branches across Tayside, has seen a significant increase in sales in October and November 2009 by comparison with the same time last year.
George Solley, Director of Property Sales at Thorntons, said: "Whilst the statistics for property sales reported from various sources may be accurate, they are based on the entry dates to properties. These result from actual sales activity in the months beforehand.
"Our branches across Tayside provide us with figures which show the total value of properties on which offers have been accepted during the month. That is a far more realistic take onthe actual activity in the market at any given time.
"In Dundee, for example, these returns showed a rise in the total value by 90% during October and November 2009 as against 2008. With a few days still to go we anticipate a 100% increase. The low point in the market, in terms of sales, was in the winter of 2008/2009 and it is encouraging to see that this is not to be repeated this year, if the last two months are anything to go by."
However, although George considers prices have stabilised and stock is selling better in the run up to Christmas this year, many sellers tend to wait until after the festive break to bring property to the market and this year appears no different.
He said: "Sales are still coming through at an encouraging level and we anticipate an increase in new properties coming to the market early in the New Year.
"Those buyers who have been waiting for prices to settle before purchasing are now evident in the market and seem willing to commit to purchase at the current prices. Perhaps they share the view that prices are due to rise during 2010 and those in a position to buyare looking to do so now."
